Arunachal Pradesh is a tribal population dominated State having an area of 83,578 sq. kms with10,91,117 total population and density of 13 persons/sq. km. (census 2001).There are about 22 major tribes and nearly 45 sub- tribes who maintain group identity and speak different dialects. There was hardly any social, economic and educational development in Arunachal Pradesh during the British period because of their policy of isolation. But after independence, the Government of India took some initiatives for the social, economic and educational development of tribal people of Arunachal Pradesh which was known as North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) during those days.
