One of the main advantages of GNU Prolog is its ability to produce stand alone executables. A Prolog program can be compiled to native code to give rise to a machine-dependent executable using the GNU Prolog compiler. However native-code predicates cannot be listed nor fully debugged. So there is an alternative to native-code compilation: byte-code compilation.
