Indian Engineering Services (IES/ES) constitute of engineers that work under the government of India to manage a large segment of public sector economy which constitutes of Railroads, Public works, Power, Telecommunications, etc.

Age Limits
 
21-30 years on 1st August of the year of Examination.
 
Educational Qualification
 
A degree in Engineering from a recognized university or equivalent. M.Sc degree or its equivalent with Wireless Communications, Electronics, Radio Physics or Radio Engineering as special subjects also acceptable for certain Services/posts only. 
 
Candidates appearing at their engineering degree or equivalent examination are also eligible to compete. Candidates qualifying on the result of the written part of the Examination will be required to submit the proof of passing the requisite examination along with their detailed application form to be filled up at that stage.

Ranks
 
At the time of selection – assistant executive engineer
after 3–4 years of service(including probation period ) – executive engineer.
after 11 years of service – executive engineer selection grade.
after 15 years of service – superintending engineer.
after 21 years of service – chief engineer level-2.
after 25 years of service – chief engineer level-1.
after 28 years of service – eligible for selection to the post of engineer-in-chief.
after 32 years of service – board member as in case of railway.
